AD search update

1st round of Zoom interviews happened on Wednesday. 2 of the candidates to me - my opinion - were solid, and the other just didn't WOW.

There was a lot of talk about how the community is in supporting the athletics department. I do feel that the community does an ok job of support the university and the athletics.

An interesting comment made by a candidate - students should be treated as donors, and taken care of......after all their student fees are going to athletics no different than us giving $$ for athletics.

Of concern, the question was asked and rightfully so about the university's commitment to remaining at the D1 level. Some took offense to it, but I took it as a question this person asked to make sure when he up-roots his family for Monroe - is it a D1 job that he's signing up for. Valid question that needed to be asked, but concerning that there's that much of that perception out in the open.

Another meeting with the expectations of what the new AD should be - as well rounded as possible, but gets where they are and what they have to work with - budget wise. ULM is tapped out in the amount that it can send to athletics, so any increase has to come from sponsorships, ticket sales, and winning (tournament appearance, bowl games, regionals, etc.).
- Nothing new in this, things we've all known for a while.

There was a mention of possible community input with a forum of interviews publicly when the field is narrowed down to finalists; but nothing set or official on that.

If you have a question for consideration to be asked of the upcoming Zoom interviews, please post them here, or DM them to be for consideration.

LSU O-lineman Kardell Thomas Enters Portal

Would be a great fit in Monroe. Mean and Nasty
Listed at 6-feet-3, 350 pounds, Thomas signed with the Tigers in the 2019 class as a four-star prospect out of Southern Lab in Baton Rouge. Scholarship offers rolled in for the high school All-American well before his junior year from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and many others. In the end, he elected to stay home.

Redshirting as a true freshman in 2019, Thomas played in one game during the 2020 campaign that did not count towards a player’s eligibility. He started two of the six contests he played in last season and saw action in three this year, leaving him two years of eligibility at his new home.

The 247Sports Composite ranked Thomas as the No. 4 offensive guard in America, but 247Sports tabbed him several notches lower at No. 22. The Composite ranked him No. 97 overall and No. 4 in the state, while 247Sports had him 14th in the Bayou State.

The first transfer window for players to enter the portal runs from December 5-January 18. Players do not have to choose a destination within that window. They only have to officially enter the portal. The second transfer window runs from May 1-15.

Beach Volleyball

6-Way Log Jam

There are currently 6 teams tied at 4-2 at the top of the SBC Leaderboard. USM and Lafayette currently have the tie breaker but there is a lot of basketball yet to be played for that to really matter. Fact is, none of us saw this kind of start. If you say you did, you are a liar and I'll call you that to your face. LOL. I expect the collapse to start with every game but the guys are playing hard and they aren't backing down from anyone. I truly respect their game right now and I can assure you that's not something I expected to be saying AT ALL.
