After watching the App. State vs Ga. So. game a few times, this is IMO some of the keys to beating a very good Ga. So. team.
On Offense: 1) We must control the line of scrimmage by being disciplined enough to stick with the run. They like to sit in that 3-4 defense and play cover 2 as their base defense. They're big and physical up front. Their LB's can run well. Our O-line is big and athletic enough to get a push up front.
2) Spread the Love- Don't just look for Marcus Green all the time. Let's get EVERYONE involved in the offense. 3) Add some new wrinkles to the offense- Let's not be predictable. 4) Control time of possession/ get about 15-18 possessions against a ball control offense. 5) They don't blitz a lot.- So, take what the defense gives you. 6) Get a Fast Start.- Make them play our game.
On Defense: 1) Must play disciplined defense- Do Your Job and maintain gap integrity. They played a lot in a 1 WR formation and still threw the ball. Don't fall asleep. 2) Stack the box- Don't be afraid to play with 8, 9 or even 10 men in the box. 3) TACKLE, TACKLE, TACKLE.- We've got to gang tackle. 4) Hit the QB on EVERY play. 5) Create TURNOVERS- Give our offense more opportunities to score. 6) Make the QB pitch late- Stretch the field horizontally. 7) BE PHYSICAL at the point of attack. Keep those offensive lineman off our LB's. 8) Be ready for the Cut Blocks. 9) DB's have to protect the sidelines. Turn those run plays back inside where your help is. Get off the blocks. 10) NO CHUNK PLAYS.
On Special Teams: 1) No big returns on punts/kicks. 2) Continue to get better on FG. 3) Run Marcus Run.
Coaches: Kubik- Don't be afraid to RUN. We got enough good backs to do damage. Stick with the hot hand.
Collins- Don't be afraid to be different. Add some new wrinkles on defense. Play more Bump and Run or Tampa 2.
Viator- Throw the kitchen sink at them. Run up the score. Let your team and fanbase see you having FUN.
Once again, these are my opinions and an overall observation of the team after 8 games. At the end of the day, a victory over Ga.Southern is going to take all hands on deck, pulling the rope together in the same direction. Leave your personal agendas in the parking lot. C Love has got to play up to his expectations and his abilities. Trust ya teammates. They're on scholarship too. No Dumb Penalties/Turnovers. Defense has to play it's best game. I'd love to see what some of you think are the keys to us winning.
