Coach Kubik is a great asset to the Warhawk program. So much so that with all the coaching turnover that's happened this off season, he is the MVC ( Most Valuable Coach). Coach K is a good person, great young coach and has great people skills. We need to do ALL we can to keep him on staff. For all the local guys, this might not be the best situation but, Coach K with the help of Coach Morgan, has come to North Texas and got commitments from 6 and possibly 7 really good players from DFW and East Tx. At every step of our recruiting process, Coach K has been str8 up with us and did everything in his power to provide us with answers to any and all the questions we might have had. Schools really came after Brandon hard after he committed last June. UNT and Tx St really turned up the heat. Others like Illinois St., Montana St., Virginia, Arizona and Ok. St actually sent us more stuff than anyone. But the thing that stuck out with ULM was the fact that they answered the phone when we called or promptly called us back.
Texas St visit #1 was HORRIBLE. D-Line coach who was there last year was an a-hole. He only paid attention to 1 kid the whole time. A kid that they had NO chance of signing. Coach Withers made a coaching change and the new coach got Brandon's film and came at him hard. He attended the ULM vs. Tx St game in San Marcos and said he hated the atmosphere and mainly hung around the ULM coaches and players as much as he could without being disrespectful. State still tried to sell him on their program and how he'd fit. All to no avail, thanks in large part to the relationships we'd built with the ULM Staff.
Montana St begged us not to commit before they'd had a chance to get us there for a visit. So did Illinois St. The biggest competition came from UNT. They really did a good job of presenting their vision for the future to us and came on hard late in the recruiting process. They recruited Brandon as a LB. That really intrigued him because that's a position he'd trained for some last season. They decided to go the JuCo route instead. Plus he wanted to be in Louisiana.
This has been a long and arduous process to say the least, but it's also been one of the best times of my life. I got to see one of my son's biggest dreams come true. Actually 2 of his dreams. Playing D1 college football on scholarship and being able to do that in Louisiana.
Thanks to the Coaches and support staff at The University of Louisiana-Monroe for recognizing the academic and athletic talent of a laid-back, quiet kid from Arlington Tx and his not so shy, very talkative dad who enjoyed every minute of this journey.
To the fans, get ready for some great times ahead. Coach V is surrounding these young men with some great mentors that also happen to be some good coaches. Be LOUD in your support and continue to pressure the administrative staff to build a great athletic program to go along with what's going on academically. Be PROUD that you are a WARHAWK, cause I know we are.
