MONROE, La. – The ULM softball team has released their 2019 fall exhibition games.

The Warhawks are under the direction of second-year head coach Molly Fichtner. The team also added two-time national champion Lea Wodach to the coaching staff in the offseason.

“We have worked very hard as a team and have already taken tremendous strides in the right direction,” Fichtner said.

The team opens the fall slate with a game at 9 a.m. Saturday against Centenary in Shreveport. The Warhawks will then face Lamar at 11:30.

ULM returns home for two games, starting at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., on Sunday against Tyler Junior College.

The Warhawks will stay at home for a 6 p.m. showdown against Northwestern State on Oct. 11 before a two-game matchup with Kilgore College on Oct. 13. The two games against Kilgore will start at noon and 2 p.m.

ULM will play one more road game at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 against NSU.

“This fall, we’ve done more competing in game-like situations than we ever have before,” Fichtner said.

The Warhawks finished last season with a record of 14-42 and reached the semi-finals of the Sun Belt conference championship. ULM returns 11 players from last season, including two of the top three hitters.

Jayden Mount ended last season with a .302 batting average. She also had seven home runs and 36 RBIs. Korie Kreps returns after finishing last season with a .289 batting average, 26 runs and 12 RBIs.

“Their leadership is unmatched,” Fichtner said. “They’re out here working hard every single day and they want this team to be successful.”

Fichtner recruited 10 newcomers to the team, seven freshmen and three transfers, including Kennedy Johnson, who was the leading hitter at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before transferring to ULM.

“These fall games will be great experience for the newcomers,” Fichtner said. “Our primary focus since August has been fundamentals, communication and energy.”
