40 years ago today we beat La Tech 18-0. After years of losing seasons, years of losing to them we finally won and that was the day the Indians turned the program around. We were big underdogs, they were the Southland Conference champs and going to the Ibowl. We had 5 starters out including 2 starting receivers and 2 offense linemen. We started 5 true freshmen that game. We were 5-4-1 record at that time.
I bring this up because we are now in the same situation. I will never forget Coach Crows game speech about being ready to win, and being talented enough to beat those guys and we can do it but it’s up to you the players to do it.
Before we took the field we had to walk from Brown Stadium to Malone. In the end zone area Coach huddled every body together. He said are you a winner? 5-5-1 (we played 11 games) is not a winner... 6-4-1 is a winner. BE A WINNER TODAY... we kicked their ass.
6-6 is not a winning team. 7-5 is.
