The start of football season officially kicked off for the 2015 season at ULM, as the incoming freshmen and returners broke camp for the fall. The morning practice session saw the incoming ULM players hit the field before giving way for the returners in the afternoon. Here's the observations from the first day -
- Sam Miller, the late arrival for the Warhawks that was on the verge of grey shirting was at the camp. He worked some with the defensive ends and then closed out the first practice session working out as a TE.
- Cortez Sisco showed why he has all of the hype around him, as he was a standout at the DB and LB positions.
- Chandler Eiland is fully recovered and has a cannon for an arm. One pass he had that stood out from the morning saw his pass slip through the receiver's hands to loudly smash into the receiver's helmet.
- Chris Qualls at punter was absolutely amazing. He has consistent hang time and LONG punts that were going 50+ at times. His biggest down fall though is a slow release. While he may have been able to get away with this in high school, he will have to work on getting his punts off quicker for college.
- Ben Moye on the offensive line is bigger, both weight and height that he was even from the spring. He looked a little uncomfortable at the tackle position, but has the frame now to handle the move.
In the afternoon, speed was on fully display.
- receivers Marcus Green, Dee Gillespie, and the established Rashon Ceaser and Ajalen Holley will make for a lethal receiving corp.
- Garrett Smith, without a doubt is further establishing himself as the top QB in the program. He had good chemistry with the receivers in the one-on-one drills and showed good touch on his passes.
- It was good to see the number of guys sticking around after the practice to catch more passes either from a live armed QB or from the jugs machine at a high velocity.
