I know there was a lot of discussion in the off season about Hopson vs Viator. Looking at Southern Miss's record, they don't seem to be doing too hot right now after upsetting Kentucky at the start of the year. They've lost to Charlotte and Old Dominion by double digits in consecutive weeks. They'll probably still make a bowl with 6 wins, but man, they really look like they've regressed since last year.
