ULM completed their third day of spring practices today. The two-hour practice was the team's first in shells.

The biggest story between last season and this season is the development of the offensive line. Coach Rob Sale had the players working hard with different lineups. The first team of the offensive line today was:
LT: Ray Baltazar (Sr.), LG Frank Sutton, Jr. (Sr.), C Bobby Reynolds (RFr.), RG Jeff Savage (Sr.), and RT Keaton Baggs (So.). The senior-oriented line has definitely seemed to make great improvements under Sale, making several huge holes for the RB's to run through.

The defense was busy adjusting to the new system, mainly the change to a 4-man front. The defensive line will be led by Jr. Caleb Tucker coming off the end. Transfer Howard Houston spent time with the 2nd team Defensive Line, behind David Elias, Jr. and Colton Moorehead.

Tre' Perrier and Justin Backus were both back with the team. Backus got most of his reps with the second team, but still looked very dominant both in coverage and in blitzes. He should fit in nicely to form an outstanding secondary with Tre' Hunter and Lenzy Pipkins.

Craig Ford got the majority of snaps both at Kicker and Punter. He had great hangtime and distance on his punts.

The battle for the starting Quarterback position is still led by Garrett Smith, but he is definitely being pushed by Brian Williams, Will Collins, Chandler Eiland, and Frank Maxwell. All of the Quarterbacks demonstrated great accuracy in their passing, and will push each other to become greater.

The Running Backs showed improvement at running the ball up the middle. Tyler Cain looked healthier and stronger than he has in years. He seemed more disciplined at following the holes given to him.

The new coaching staff paid a greater attention to detail than past years, even in stretches and warm-ups. There was also more individual teaching going on, which led to faster development and deeper understanding of the concepts by the players. Coach Viator, for the most part, let his coaches have control over their units while he supervised.

The Warhawks will return to practice Thursday, March 17th at 5:00 P.M. for their first practice in full pads.
