HOUSTON – The ULM track and field team capped off the first day of the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational by earning six Top-10 finishes, two of which resulted in personal bests, on Friday, Jan. 31 at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.

The top performer on Friday was Jasmine Scott-Kilgo, who claimed the first long jump title in her collegiate career. Scott-Kilgo, who had placed among the Top 3 on six occasions in her career and twice in 2020 season when she headed to Houston, recorded a personal-best jump of 20 1/2 (6.11 meters) in her fourth attempt of the afternoon. That allowed her to leap past UTSA’s Ingeborg Gruenwald, who took second with a mark of 19-9 1/2.

Brianna Sam, a native of Pearland, Texas, produced a third-place finish in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 61-4 1/4 (18.70m). It marked her eighth Top-5 finish in her collegiate career in the event. Sam, who committed fouls in her next five attempts, was one of four women in the event to clear 60 feet. Houston’s Taylor Scaife won the event with a toss of 69-9 3/4 (21.28m), followed by her teammate Mikaila Martin who placed second with a mark of 64-5 3/4.

The top men’s finisher for the Warhawks was Sam Healy, who came through with a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 23-11. Healy, who posted his best mark of the day on the third attempt, tied Rice’s Scott Filip and was just shy of Take Notice Sports’ Jarvis Gotch, who claimed third with a mark of 24-7 1/4.

ULM’s Darryl Givens also competed in the men’s long jump, where he placed 21st with a personal-best mark of 21-7 1/4 (6.58m). His previous career-best came at the Louisiana Classics on March 16, 2019, when he had a leap of 6.29 meters.

Darshon Turk, a native of Silsbee, Texas, made a triumphant return to his home state, delivering a fifth-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles. Turk broke the tape in a time of 8.35, earning his second Top-10 finish of the season. He also ran a personal-record 7.17 in the 60 meters.

Grant Girtman bolted down the track in the men’s 60-meter dash in 6.91, establishing a personal best in the process. Girtman, who finished off the LSU Purple Tiger in a time of 6.94, posted the fourth Top-5 finish of his collegiate career, which includes a pair of Top-5 performances in the pole vault.

Eric Hawkins came through with the 15th Top-10 performance of his career in the men’s 800-meter run, finishing eighth with a time of 1:55.73. Hawkins has now placed among the Top 10 in the 800 in 10-straight races.

The Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational concludes on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the UH's Yeoman Fieldhouse. The competition resumes at 12:30 p.m. in the women’s high jump and concludes at 6:50 p.m. with the men’s 4x400 meter relay.
